Gas filters for industrial gas filtration

In industrial processes, a clean gas stream is of direct importance for the operation of your installations. Contamination in gas streams can lead to wear, blockages and unwanted downtime. With the right gas filters, solid particles and liquid aerosols are effectively removed from the gas stream, allowing you to maintain control over your maintenance process.

Interfilter offers a wide range of gas filters and supports you in selecting the right solution for your application.

What is gas filtration?

Gas filtration is the process of removing solid particles and liquid aerosols from a gas stream using a suitable filter medium. Depending on the application, this ranges from coarse particle filtration to the separation of very fine liquid droplets. All gas filters from Interfilter guarantee an efficiency of at least 98 percent.

With the right configuration of filters, you achieve a consistent gas stream, protection of your installations and a manageable maintenance process.

Gas filtration in stages

In many applications, gas filtration is built up in multiple stages. In the first phase, a solids removal filter removes solid particles. Next, a coalescer combines fine liquid droplets into larger droplets. In the final step, a separator actually removes these droplets from the gas stream. This staged approach removes contamination step by step and protects your installations further down the process.

Types of gas filters

Within industrial gas filtration, various gas filters are used depending on the application and the type of contamination: hot gas filters, dry gas filters, particle filters, coalescer filters and separator filters. These filters are used to remove solid particles, liquids and aerosols from gas streams.

Solids removal filters  Solid removal filter

A solids removal filter, also known as a pre-filter, removes solid particles such as dust, rust and sand from a gas or liquid stream. This filter is placed before a coalescer and protects the system in the first filtration stage, ensuring the performance of subsequent filters is maintained. Applications include oil and gas installations, fuel systems and chemical processes.

Coalescer filters

A coalescer filter removes fine liquid droplets from a gas stream by combining them into larger droplets through a multi-layer filter medium. These droplets can then be separated in a subsequent stage. Coalescer filters are used in fuel filtration, gas treatment and for removing water from oil and chemicals.

Separator filters

A separator filter is used after a coalescer and separates liquid droplets from the gas stream. The hydrophobic filter material allows gas to pass through while repelling liquid, preventing separated liquid from re-entering the gas stream. Separator filters are used in natural gas treatment and petrochemical processes.

Hot gas filters

Hot gas filters are used in applications with high temperatures, such as in the polymer industry. These filters are suitable for long-term use under high temperature conditions and are cleanable and reusable, which reduces the number of filter replacements and simplifies maintenance.

Dry gas filters

Dry gas filters are used to remove solid particles from gas streams without liquids. They are characterized by a large filter surface area, robust construction and chemical resistance. Applications include natural gas and LNG installations, gas distribution and industrial processes.

Manageable maintenance and lower costs

The right combination of gas filters directly contributes to a predictable maintenance process. By removing contamination in multiple stages:

  • Filter elements remain usable for longer
  • Replacement frequency is reduced
  • Pressure drop within your installation remains stable Coalescer filter

This provides clarity and control.

The right gas filter for your application

The selection of a gas filter depends on the type of contamination, process conditions, required filtration level and factors such as maintenance interval and pressure drop. Interfilter translates your process data into a suitable filter solution and supports you in determining the right configuration.
