Filter media is widely used in air and dust extraction systems within HVAC installations, as well as in industrial environments, spray booths and other applications where clean air is essential. At Interfilter, we offer a wide range of filter media suitable for various applications. In this blog, you will learn more about the properties, types and application possibilities of filter media.
What is filter media?
Filter media is a filtration material that removes particles from the air, ranging from coarse dust to finer contaminants. Due to the different material types and layer structures, these media are suitable for various filtration applications, from air handling units to spray booths and industrial systems.
Advantages of filter media
Each type of filter media has its own specific advantages. The general benefits are:
- Custom cut and certain variants available in rolls
- Low resistance
- Lightweight
Filter media cut to size or supplied in rolls
Most types of filter media are custom cut and supplied in your required dimensions. Our glass fiber, synthetic, ceiling, paint stop, PPI, Cocolok and Hairlok filter media are all available cut to size.
In addition to custom cutting, various types are also available in rolls. For example, synthetic filter media and ceiling filter media are supplied in roll form.
Our range of filter media
At Interfilter, you will find various types of filter media with specific properties. Below is an overview of the main types:
Glass fiber filter media
- Glass fiber filter media is mainly used as a moisture separator in gas turbine filtration systems. This prevents external moisture from entering the turbine.
- Properties: Low resistance, cost effective, durable design.
- Applications: HVAC systems, industrial air filtration.
- More information about our glass fiber filter media.
Synthetic filter media
- Synthetic filter media, made from polyester fibers, offers versatile solutions for air filtration in air handling units. It is lightweight and effective in capturing both coarse and finer particles.
- Properties: Lightweight, suitable for coarse and fine air filtration, available in rolls or cut to size.
- Applications: Pre filtration in HVAC systems and air conditioning.

Ceiling filter media
Ceiling filter media is frequently used in spray booths and paint lines. It ensures controlled airflow and prevents contamination, supporting high quality coating processes. It also contributes to the protection of lighting fixtures and the health of employees.- Properties: Low pressure drop, fully incinerable, available in rolls or cut to size.
- Applications: Spray booths, paint lines, printing facilities.

Paint stop filter media
Paint stop filter media is designed to capture paint overspray in spray booths. This glass fiber media has an open structure to retain paint particles without saturating quickly. Dust stop for dry particles and hydro stop for water based coatings are also available.
- Properties: High paint absorption capacity, suitable for dry dust and water based coatings, custom cut, low resistance and progressive structure.
- Applications: Spray booths

PPI filter media
- PPI filter media, also known as filter foam, has variable porosity (PPI). It is used for air filtration and is water resistant. The open foam structure ensures consistent airflow and can be washed for reuse.
- Properties: Open foam structure, variable porosity, reusable.
- Applications: Humidifiers, light air filtration applications, speaker protection.

Cocolok and Hairlok filter media
- Cocolok and Hairlok filter media are made from natural fibers such as coconut and animal hair. These environmentally friendly materials are suitable for coarse air filtration in various industrial applications.
- Properties: Environmentally friendly, natural fibers, custom cut and available in round shapes.
- Applications: Intake filters for diesel engines and compressors and filtration in air handling systems.

Different filter classes
Although filter media is often used for coarse filtration, various types are available in different filter classes. This ranges from ISO Coarse G1, G2 and G3 to ePM10 50 percent.
The correct filter class depends on your application, the required air quality and the technical specifications of your installation. Check the specific product pages to see which filter class meets your requirements.
