Part description

How does a refrigerated dryer work?

A refrigerated dryer is a type of air dryer used to remove moisture from compressed air. When air is compressed, it becomes warmer, and when this air cools down and then warms up again, the moisture condenses and forms water droplets, which are drained away.

Types of Refrigerated Dryers

There are two types of refrigerated dryers:

  • Non-cycling refrigerated dryer: This is the most common type of refrigerated dryer. It works by continuously circulating air through the cooling section, regardless of the demand for dry air. This type of dryer is suitable for applications with constant air consumption.
  • Cycling refrigerated dryer: This type of dryer switches on and off based on air consumption. It consumes less energy than the non-cycling refrigerated dryer, as it only operates when there is a demand for dry air. It is suitable for applications with fluctuating air consumption.

Applications of Refrigerated Dryers

Refrigerated dryers are used in various industries where compressed air is used and dry air is crucial for the reliability and quality of processes. Here are some examples of industries where refrigerated dryers are commonly used:

  • Food industry: In the food industry, refrigerated dryers are used to remove moisture from compressed air, where the air does not come into contact with the food. In this industry, 90% of the time, an adsorption dryer is used.
  • Automotive industry: In the automotive industry, dry air is used in spray booths to improve paint quality and reduce contamination risks. Refrigerated dryers are used to remove moisture and contaminants from the compressed air used for painting cars.

Benefits of Refrigerated Dryers

  • Reduces equipment damage: A refrigerated dryer helps reduce the amount of moisture in compressed air, which can lead to corrosion and damage to equipment and machines. Using a refrigerated dryer can extend equipment life and lower operational costs.
  • Cost-effective: The use of a refrigerated dryer is cheaper than using an adsorption dryer because a refrigerated dryer does not require regeneration air.
  • The purchase price is also lower compared to an adsorption dryer.
  • A refrigerated dryer does not require annual maintenance.
