At Interfilter, we work every day to make buildings and installations more sustainable. Together with installation partner 4Some, with whom we have been working since 2022, we carried out a pilot project at World Trade Center Rotterdam using Interfilter's Lean Filter with Circular Frame (LFC).
Sustainability at WTC Rotterdam
WTC Rotterdam has been working to improve the sustainability of its technical installations for some time. The switch to the LFC filter directly supports these efforts. Because the circular frame remains in the air handling unit and only the filter bags are replaced, each filter change generates significantly less waste and packaging material. This makes a tangible contribution to the building's sustainability objectives.
Collaboration with 4Some
The collaboration between Interfilter and 4Some has been close and personal from the outset. Jaco Meijer, Area Sales Manager at Interfilter, gave Eduard Bus, Site Manager at 4Some, and his colleagues a detailed presentation on the LFC filter. This was followed by a joint toolbox session to prepare the technicians for the new working method. This gave everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts and contribute to the process in advance.
"Jaco gave a presentation to the technicians. I think it is important to involve them because they are the ones working with the filters every day." says Eduard Bus.
In addition, Interfilter carried out a technical inspection of each air handling unit beforehand and recommended more suitable filters where necessary. Eduard describes this commitment as valuable: "The investment Interfilter has made has been absolutely fantastic."
Putting it into practice
The benefits of this approach became particularly clear during the second filter change, when the technicians replaced only the filter bags for the first time, leaving the frames in place. "In the first year, we received complete filters including the frames, so the replacement process was essentially the same as in previous years. But this year, we really experienced the benefits." says Eduard Bus.
In practice, this not only reduces weight and packaging material but also simplifies logistics. In a busy urban area like Rotterdam, even placing a waste container can be challenging. "You cannot simply park a truck in the middle of the city," explains Eduard Bus. The time savings and reduction in waste are additional practical benefits of switching to LFC.
Results in practice
After the filter change, an air quality measurement was carried out, confirming that the new filters were functioning properly. The practical benefits were immediately noticeable: 75% less storage space and packaging, 87% less weight and an overall time saving of 39%. For technicians, this means less heavy lifting in a complex building.
With thanks to
We would like to thank Eduard Bus from 4Some for his contribution to this project and the successful pilot. This positive collaboration, built on open communication and mutual trust, demonstrates how working together can deliver tangible results, such as this more sustainable approach to filter replacement at World Trade Center Rotterdam. We greatly value this long-standing partnership, which continues to develop through our shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
