Filter Press Cloth Plates
A filter press cloth is a specialized technical textile used as a separation medium in a filter press. It is designed to allow liquid to pass through under high pressure, while retaining solid particles. This results in the formation of a compact mass, known as the filter cake.
The cloth is typically made from synthetic fibers such as polyester (PET), polypropylene (PP), or polyamide (PA). Depending on the application, different weave structures and coatings may be used, including needle felt or monofilament fabrics.
How is the filter cloth used?
- Installation in the filter press: the filter cloth is stretched between the plates of a filter press. These plates close together like an accordion, forming chambers where the filtration process takes place.
- Slurry feed: a mixture of solids and liquid, known as slurry, is pumped into the press under high pressure. The pressure ensures that the slurry is evenly distributed across the chambers.
- Filtration process: the liquid (filtrate) is forced through the fine pores of the filter cloth and drained away. The solid particles are retained on the cloth, forming a compact filter cake.
- Cake discharge: once the filtration cycle is complete, the plates are opened. The dry filter cake falls out of the press or is manually removed. The filter cloth is then cleaned and prepared for the next cycle.
Belt Press Cloths
The cloth for the belt press is designed with a high drainage capacity to promote optimal dewatering of the sludge cake. The clipper seam of the belt is made of stainless steel and coated with a special layer to ensure a proper seal. Additionally, the filter cloth has high tensile strength, contributing to a long lifespan and reliable performance.
Where are filter press cloths used?
Filter presses and belt presses are widely used across many industries, including:
- Water treatment – sludge dewatering
- Pharmaceutical industry
- Chemical industry – production and purification
- Metalworking industry
- Mining industry
- Food processing
- Tanneries
- Electroplating and galvanizing facilities
